About the Dreams Initiative

Picture
MISSION: The non-profit Arts Equality is designed, in part, to support the Dreams Initiative by using its funds to affect meaningful industry advancement on the diversity front by helping close the achievement gap in the all of the arts industries for aspiring minority and female students.

VISION: To help every student, regardless of race, gender or ethnicity, realize his or her dream of having a successful career in the their chosen arts field.

CURRENTLY:  The Dreams Initiative is partnering with film schools around the country to offer scholarships to worthy filmmaking recipients.

Dreams Intiative Rationale - Filmmakers

  1. According to the Directors Guild of America in a two-year study released in December of 2015, of the 376 directors of Hollywood features released in 2013 and 2014, just 6.4% were women and just 12.5% were minority directors.
  2. The 2015 UCLA Hollywood Diversity Report highlights a disparity in most aspects of the film and television industry for minority and females.
  3. The 2016 USC report from the Annenberg School of Communications finds a 'whitewashed' Hollywood that underrepresents female and minority filmmakers.
